links

As we all know and learned from the previous articles, links help our website rank in Google. The more links we created the better ranking we achieve. A lot of things are done about building links to our sites and it cannot deny the results are incredible. However, there are different types of link building strategies and we never know which ones really did a good job for our site.

We put anchor text links or sitewide links in our page content. However, there are multiple links from same site that link back to you. Sometimes it is also possible that from all those links, few will unlink to your pages.

To better understand this, we created some requirements to narrow down sites and make them easy to manage.

  1. Low domain score –  we wanted to study sites with low domain scores. Sites that have domain score of more than 20  are being removed. Sites that have too much authority are naturally rank for search terms and that is hard to see the impact that a few links can have.
  2. Low backlink count – if a site had more than 20 backlinks, it was also remove. Same as the one discussed before we want to discover what will happen to the site without backlinks.
  3. No subdomains – we wanted sites that weren’t a Tumblr.com or a WordPress.com site or subdomain in the url. You must have registered and use your own domain name.
  4. English only sites – English is the universal language and so people look for the English langugae over the internet when searching for information. Google in English is more competitive than Google in Spanish, or Portuguese or any other languages. We only selected sites that had their main market as the United States and the site had to be in English.
